Joe Krown Trios

The Joe Krown Trio + 1 featuring Papa Mali is Joe Krown’s most current project. The group showcases Krown on piano and Hammond B-3 organ, with Mali— the legendary New Orleans-based singer-songwriter, guitarist, and producer—alongside the New Orleans session rhythm section of Casandra Faulconer on bass and vocals and Eric Bolivar on drums and vocals.

In the spring of 2023 Joe Krown released "Tribute", an album honoring the music and the pioneering pianists who defined the New Orleans piano style. The recording pays homage to legends such as James Booker, Dr. John, Allen Toussaint, and Professor Longhair.
Soon after the release of Tribute, Krown assembled the Joe Krown Trio +1 featuring Papa Mali to perform material from the album and to carry forward the legacy of this influential style. Whether performing classic covers or original compositions, the group’s music remains firmly rooted in the tradition established by these piano masters.

Following the tradition of Joe's legendary Trio with Walter Wolfman Washington and Russell Batiste, the Joe Krown Trio +1 featuring Papa Mali holds a regular Sunday night residency at the Maple Leaf Bar. The group also makes frequent appearances at other well-known New Orleans venues, including Tipitina's, Snug Harbor Jazz Bistro, and Chickie Wah Wah, among others. Joe Krown also showcases the Trio +1 annually at his performances during the French Quarter Festival and the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.  Beyond Louisiana, the Trio +1 has toured regionally, with performances in Florida, Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and the Carolinas.
