Joe Krown is widely known in New Orleans as a compelling solo piano performer, a role he has embraced since 1996. His piano concerts celebrate the rich traditions of New Orleans piano, drawing inspiration from legends such as Professor Longhair, Allen Toussaint, Dr. John, and James Booker, while blending in traditional New Orleans rhythms and driving boogie-woogie.
Over the years, Joe has been a regular solo piano performer at many of the city’s most iconic venues, including the Maple Leaf Bar, Le Bon Temps, the Jazz Playhouse, Dos Jefes, and Buffa’s Bar. He was also a longtime fixture at Ralph Brennan Restaurants—Ralph’s on the Park, Redfish Grill, and Brennan’s—where he played weekly piano engagements for more than 20 years. Since 1997, he has been a regular performer at WWOZ Piano Night, a hallmark event celebrating New Orleans piano music.
Beyond New Orleans, Joe has toured extensively throughout the United States and internationally, including performances in Germany and Spain at boogie-woogie festivals and concert venues. A major highlight of his career came in 2007, when he toured as a solo pianist opening concerts for Mavis Staples and Charlie Musselwhite.
Joe Krown’s solo piano shows are distinguished not only by their musical depth, but also by his engaging storytelling. He weaves together the history of New Orleans piano with colorful, firsthand stories from his long and adventurous career, offering audiences both an educational and deeply personal connection to the music and the legendary artists who shaped this enduring tradition.
